Origin Story

It all started with a Cardinals game.

One night, while watching St. Louis take on the Texas Rangers, my boyfriend and I found ourselves paying less attention to batting averages — and more attention to chains, cleats, and cowboy hats.

Was that two chains or just one? Were those custom earrings? Neon cleats or neutral? We couldn’t stop analyzing the subtle (and not-so-subtle) style choices players were making — not just on the field, but on the way to it.

And then there was a clip of Brendan Donovan stepped off the team bus in a cowboy hat, and that was it. Tunnel Threads was born.

What started as casual commentary turned into curiosity: Who’s bringing personal style to the game? How do players express themselves through their fits, their gear, and their swagger? And why isn’t anyone covering this side of baseball?

Tunnel Threads exists to answer those questions — and celebrate the players who bring fashion to the field, the tunnel, and beyond.
